Academic Support and Monitoring

  • Counsellors offer assistance as students explore the course choices available to them in the coming years. Counsellors are happy to meet with families to ensure a team approach to student success.
  • After each report card, guidance counsellors debrief with students, discussing approaches to learning, strategies for success, and student goals.
  • This does not mean that counsellors will wait for reporting periods to address concerns. Students or counsellors can initiate meetings to review academic challenges and brainstorm strategies to address areas of weakness.
  • Counsellors collaborate with teachers, the Learning Support team, administrators, and families to get a clear picture of how students are progressing in their courses.
  • A counsellor is an advocate for students. He or she will work to ensure that the student is being set up for success.
