Taster Lecture: Keele University Law Taster Lecture – Snail in a Bottle*, by School of Law

*Note: Snail in a Bottle: the origins of negligence in the UK

Come join us for a taster lecture by Oxford University Press Law Teacher of the year 2017 Finalist – Dr. Michael Fay (Senior lecturer in Law at Keele University). You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about studying LLB in the UK in the Q&A session.

In this session, we will look at the story of the snail that changed the UK’s common law. In the case of Donoghue v Stevenson, the House of Lords (now called the UK Supreme Court) created the law of negligence, meaning a person could be liable for carelessly causing harm to another. We will look at what happened in this seminal case and how it established a legal framework that remains relevant today.
