University Application Deadlines and Offer Dates
CDNIS students apply to a variety of countries for university, all of which have their own application processes and timelines – including deadlines and periods when offers are made. It is important for students and parents to understand the process for each country so as to manage expectations and reduce anxiety. Below is a summary of the timelines for the countries to which CDNIS students typically apply. Note that CDNIS has its own internal deadlines, which are well in advance of universities’ actual deadlines – this is done to ensure that applications are accurate, complete, and submitted on time. Deadlines cited below are CDNIS internal deadlines.
Application Deadline
- Depends on province or individual university (deadlines on university websites). We encourage students to submit applications by late November/early December.
When Offers Are Made
- From January through May. Offers from highly selective programs (Engineering, Commerce, etc.), and courses with limited enrolments typically come later.
Application Deadline
- Oxbridge, Medical, Dental, Veterinarian Medicine courses – early October. For all other courses, we encourage students to submit as early as possible, certainly no later than early December 1, as UK universities make offers as soon as applications are received.
When Offers Are Made
- UK offers are made on a rolling basis, hence the emphasis on early submission. Oxbridge interviews occur in early December with decisions coming soon thereafter. Courses requiring interviews (Medical, Dental, Veterinarian Medicine, etc.) make offers later.
Application Deadline
- Early Decision (ED) and Early Application (EA): late October; Regular Decision (RD): early December.
When Offers Are Made
- EA/ED decisions are released mid-December (some schools in January). Most RD decisions, particularly at more selective schools, are released in late March. Please note: this can be difficult for students applying primarily to the U.S. as they often will have no offers until late March when their peers applying to the UK and Canada will already have received offers.
Application Deadline
- HKU: mid-Nov; other HK universities, early December
When Offers Are Made
- Anytime from January through the summer.
Application Deadline
- Typically, students applying to Australia will do so after graduating, in September/October, using final IB marks. Some Australian universities will allow students, particularly international applicants, to applying during Spring of Grade 12 using predicted IB marks (but students will not be eligible for scholarship opportunities).
When Offers Are Made
- Typically, offers are made quickly. Students may receive a decision 2-4 weeks after application is received.
Application Deadline
- Students work with their Counsellors to identify the various application deadlines for other post-secondary destinations.
When Offers Are Made
- The timelines for offers vary between destinations. Students should communicate with their Counsellors to find the relevant information for their applications.
